February 2007

Random thought of the day: “We’ll rendezvous at 16 hundred hours”. I haven’t thought about it before, but today it hit me that it’s wrong on so many levels. It’s sort of like saying that $12.00 is 12 hundred dollars. In that case it would be correct if we said 12 hundred cents, but in the case of time it’s even more wrong to say 16 hundred minutes. In Sweden we use the 24 hour format, but we don’t say “hundred”.

After first hearing Genie Chuo a few weeks ago, she has rapidly become my new favourite singer. I just love her voice and now that I’ve seen her music videos I can say that she’s also very beautiful. I was meaning to post these earlier, but I’ve been working overtime for two weeks including weekends, so I haven’t had much time to spend on other things. The source of the videos is the VCD that comes with her album.

Returner

A couple of weeks ago they showed the Japanese movie Returner on Swedish TV. I hadn’t heard about it but I had to watch it. It’s a movie about a girl named Milly who in the future goes back in time to the present day to save the world by killing the first alien who crashes on Earth and thereby stopping the war that has all but eliminated mankind in the future. She gets help in doing this from a hit man she happens to meet. I know, it sounds pretty lame. But I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It’s one of those movies that are “easy-watching”. You don’t have to invest that much in the movie but still get a pleasant feeling after watching it. (more…)

Death Note

Death Note is one of those things that “everyone is talking about”. After seeing numerous topics about how people loved the Death Note anime on online discussion boards, a couple of weeks ago I decided to download the available fan subbed episodes to see what the hype was all about. (more…)

Here’s a DVD rip of Ai Otsuka’s Smily PV. This was my favourite PV last summer. Its cheerfulness really picked me up. This PV was recently requested over at AHN, so I thought I’d upload it here.

Two of my favourite artists are releasing Best of albums soon. Ayu is releasing her A Best 2 - white and A Best 2 - black, that are two best of CDs with different songs. The black version has one new song called Part of me. Both versions come as CD only or in a bundle with two DVDs containing the PVs for the songs and a documentary film from CDL 06-07. Ayu’s new albums go on sale February 28. I think I’m going to wait for the overseas version though because I have bought so many CDs recently and I have most of the material already (songs and PVs).

One month later, on March 28, Ai Otsuka is releasing her first Best of album 愛 am Best. Some have called this “just a singles collection”, which is more or less true, but it also comes with a DVD that, as far as I understand, contains all the PVs for the songs on the album. I’ve been wishing for an Ai PV collection, so I’ll get this album (though I’ll probably get the overseas version for this one as well).

My old car stereo is not very good. It can only play cassettes, the display is broken and sometimes it dies when you adjust the volume. I’ve been using a cassette adapter together with my mp3 player when I’ve wanted to listen to my own music.

My dad gave me a 2GB USB stick for my birthday and I’ve been using it to bring mp3s to work. Yesterday it hit me that there just have to be car stereos with a USB port that can play mp3s off a USB stick. (more…)
