New figure photos
A couple of days ago I received my biggest order of figures to date. Now I’ve taken a few photos of them after I’ve unpacked them. I took some quick shots in daylight on top of one of my cupboards.
Let’s start with the Eye Up 1/8 Yoko figure. I’m very happy with this figure. Yoko and Mao were impulse buys that I added to the order right before it was shipped. I really like the pose, her expression and how dynamic it feels. It has a couple of small flaws. There’s a thin red line on one of her legs (I’ll just look at it as a battle wound) and the seams on the legs are a little visible. But other than that it’s great. Better than I had hoped actually. You can remove her head to remove the scarf if you want to, but I like the scarf (won’t she get cold otherwise, considering how little she’s wearing?
). There’s a support for the gun barrel which I excluded from the photos. There’s also this small triangular peice which I suppose goes under the small of her foot (it’s the only place it fits).
Here are the rest of the figures: the Run’a 1/7 MC Axis Nose Art Girl and the Kotobukiya 1/8 Blanc Neige and Mao.
I love most of Shunya Yamashita’s designs. Especially the eyes. I’ve skipped some of the figures that were based on his artwork, but I had to get the nose art girl. It’s a pretty far out design with the propellers on her head. This figure is a “cast off” figure. You can remove her top. To do this you can “unlatch” it in the front. Fiddle with it a little and it opens up. You’ll need to do this when you unpack the figure since there’s protective plastic under the top. I can post a picture of this if you want. The arms (gloves) and head are easily removable if you want to remove the top completely. I suppose you can jiggle the utility belt off too, but I wanted to keep it on and didn’t want to risk breaking anything. Does the figure really look 1/7 by the way?
Blanc Neige is just a figure that stuck with me when I browsed though upcoming releases. It’s not very similar to the figures I’ve gotten before. But it’s nice. Here you can also remove her head (as awful as that sounds). It comes off pretty easily. You have to do this if you want to attach her cape. The cape doesn’t flow exactly as in the pictures on the box. I’m undecided about whether or not I’ll keep it on. It covers so much of her, but yet it completes the figure. Both Blanc Neige and Mao are screwed to the base.
Last out is Mao. I really should take more photos to show what I like about this figure. This is the only figure that came with a “manual”. It’s a picture of Mao with three arrows showing that you should pull off her head and her arms to be able to remove her jacket. I wanted to keep the jacket on since her hair is designed to work with the jacket, but I just wanted to see what she looked like without it, so I started pulling. Darn, that head was hard to pull out! I finally managed to get it to come off, but it took too much violence for me to be comfortable with removing her arms. I was too afraid I’d break her.
Let me know if you want any photos on how to (dis)assemble these figures (except Mao, I’m not trying that again).
Hmm… I really should get another display case. The one I have now is getting veeery crowded.

Yeah, I’m glad I got it. It’s on the top shelf of my display case (for now at least). I also changed my gravatar to Yoko.
I haven’t watched that many episodes of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann yet, but I like the “you can do it!”-spirit of the show.
