I’d like to recommend a piece of software that I came across by accident a few weeks ago. It’s called ted, or torrent episode downloader.

What the program does is let you select your favourite (mainstream) TV shows and then keeps track of when new episodes are aired and looks for BitTorrent releases of those episodes. If it finds a good torrent it downloads it automatically and lets your BitTorrent client download the episode. You’ll need to set a default download location in your BitTorrent client for it to work.

This is great, since you don’t have to keep track of when the next Dexter episode (as per example) will be out. The benefit is greatest if you keep your computer switched on a lot, but you still have use of the program even if you don’t. I’ve only used ted for a few weeks, but I’m very satisfied so far.

I use this in conjunction with a piece of software I wrote myself that copies the video files to the external harddrive I have connected to my PS3 according to a set of rules that puts the video files in the correct folders. Very convenient. I might post this program later.
