By recommendation I recently started watching the Japanese drama series Mop Girl (モップガール) starring the lovely Keiko Kitagawa. It’s only ten episodes long, so it won’t take long to finish it, but I’m enjoying it.
The story is about Momoko, who has the ability to travel back in time if she touches the belongings of someone who has died, so that she can try to prevent their deaths. Kind of like Tru Calling, but Mop Girl has a more feel-good quality to it. It’s a mix of comedy and drama.
It’s called Mop Girl because Momoko works at a funeral service that also deals with cleaning up crime scenes. Momoko has a senior co-worker named Otomo-san (Shosuke Tanihara), who gets dragged into her attempts to change the future.
Otomo-san is very strict with Momoko (on the surface at least) and smacks her over the head some times. One episode I got a smaller shock when he head-butts Momoko! (WTF!)
The theme song of the drama is Destination Nowhere by Erika (Sawajiri):
