Soju

Ever since I started watching Korean movies, I’ve wanted to taste Soju. It looks like it could be pretty disgusting, but I want to try it anyway.
The problem has been that soju isn’t available in Sweden. You can get it at Korean restaurants (which aren’t aplenty), but it isn’t available at bars or “Systembolaget” (the Swedish Alcohol Retailing Monopoly, the one and only liquor store chain in Sweden). You can’t even special order it unless you find an importer yourself that can supply Systembolaget with the items you want.
A while ago I, more or less by chance, found an importer that carries soju and today I got the two bottles of Jinro Chamiseul soju that I had ordered (as depicted)!
I haven’t tasted it yet, but soon…
edit: now I’ve tasted it

What is this? Is it a beer, wine, whiskey?

It’s kind of a distilled rice wine.

I just tasted it. I thought it’d be appropriate to taste it while watching a Korean movie, so I was watching 100 days with Mr. ssagaji (Naesarang ssagaji). I was hoping to taste it with some buddies, so I didn’t open the bottles before now. But everyone left town this weekend, and I couldn’t wait any longer, so I’m trying it solo.
Before I describe how it tasted I just have to tell you about a dream I had about a week ago. I dreamt that I took a full mouth of soju and could feel the taste of it. It was surprisingly sweet. The dream was so vivid that I had to check the bottles the following day to check that I hadn’t opened them.
The soju I bought is made from rice and sweet potato. It smells like vodka (or just ethanol). The taste is like… a hint of sake, but sweeter and a bit more alcohol-y. Just like in my dream except for the alcohol character (freaky!!). It’s very mild/smooth. When you see people go “k~~~~~!!” after drinking it in the movies, it seems like it would taste like kerosene, but that’s not the case at all with my soju. And the alcohol-y taste is less apparent when the soju is chilled.
I like it! Too bad you have to special order it here (expensive).

LOL
- “The dream was so vivid that I had to check the bottles the following day to check that I hadn’t opened them.”– something like this happened to me before…as if i lived in a another dimension for a while because this kind of dream is just too detailed and as if it really did happened. Anyway, i can’t wait to try chilled soju after reading your comment…

Hi, I’m going to assume that you know Swedish. If you don’t, let me know and I’ll translate.
