July 2010

I posted a so-so quality version of this music video a while back. This one is a DVD-rip.

You can actually see the cute yellow dots on Seo-hyun’s cheeks in this version.

I haven’t written about my figure collection in a while. Since last time I’ve received the Rider figma figure, which is everything I expected, as well as my Hatsune Miku VN02 mix. The “downside” with the Miku figure is that it pretty much needs a shelf of its own, since it’s so eye-catching that it steals the thunder from other figures on the same shelf.

When I listened to this song I got the feeling that I definitely had heard it before somewhere.

After digging through some old videos I found a performance of this song that I downloaded last year when I wanted to check out some new Korean artists (besides SNSD). That performance isn’t as good as the one above, but I don’t know why it didn’t stick. Perhaps I wasn’t susceptible to KARA at the time.

Not to raise your expectations too much, but this song is awesome! :)

This is the first (ok, secthird!) in a series of KARA songs that I will post.

The song is called Rock U, but it sounds nothing like the title. It’s so cute! It sounds like a song that could be used in the end credits of a Korean romantic comedy. Especially the part where they go “니가 너무 좋아 너무너무 좋아” (niga neomu joha, neomuneomu joha).

It’s perhaps not the most representative song of KARA’s, but I really like it and I’ve been singing it all day, so this one gets posted first (um, third) :) . It also has the names of all the members. My current favourite is Seung-yeon.

You might notice that the sound “breaks up” in a few places, but this is there in the original music video on the DVD (the Gom TV version has it too). It’s not due to my editing.

Update: I’ve replaced the video with a new version that has better audio.

Since the amount of Asian music videos that I have had reached a critical point, I had to go out and buy a new hard drive today. I thought I’d use this one solely for Asian music — especially for K-Pop, which fills up disks pretty quickly with all the high-definition material out there.

This is the one I picked out. It seemed fitting for the task at hand. Writing a “K-Pop” label on this disk would be kind of redundant :) .

(It’s a Samsung G2 Portable 500GB Coral Blue)

Since I mentioned this performance in a comment to another post, I probably should post it in case you want to see it.

I was comparing it to Girls’ Generation’s cover of the same BoA song and you can tell that KARA aren’t quite the same calibre dancers.

That’s just like me to not post a video when I finally have something to write about it   . I will post more KARA videos in the near future.

BoA is finally releasing a new Korean album! It’s called Hurricane Venus and will be out August 2nd 6th.

One of the new songs on the album is GAME, which you can check out below (performed by a blonde BoA).

Update: better version here

When I first watched the video, my first thought was along the lines of “wtf” when the song started, but the chorus is pretty good and it’s growing on me fast. It’s nice to hear BoA sing in Korean again :) .

The video is from a YouTube rip, so the quality isn’t the best. I’ll repost once a HQ version is released.

Since Mr. Boogie came up in conversation in a previous post, I thought I’d post a video of it. :)

This is the nicest performance I could find. Luna looks great in this one.

I’ve been meaning to re-encode the previous version that I posted of this video, but then I came across a 4Minute music video DVD, so I made a new version of all the videos (the other two are coming up soon).

This version doesn’t have the For Music intro that the TV version had.

This performance of Queen by Korean singer Son Dam-bi (손담비) was requested by hwang.
