As you probably know all too well by now, I went to SMTOWN Paris last weekend. It was the first SMTOWN in Europe ever. It was also my first K-Pop concert and my first visit to Paris.

This will be a lot more text than I usually post, but don’t worry, there are pictures further down. I thought about boiling it down to something shorter, but then it would take too long before I could post it.

I had a numbered seat for the concert, but showing up late wasn’t an option, so I came a bit early and had to stand in line for quite a while. While standing in line I was pretty calm, listening to some music (the artists who were about to perform). I went to pick up my “goodies package” and was glad that I didn’t stick around for the merchandise sale earlier during the day (I waited for a while, but I didn’t have time to buy anything then), because the towel I wanted was included in the package.

Inside the arena there were booths with official merchandise for sale. There was some time left before the concert, so I started making my way towards one of the booths. Then I heard the crowd inside start to scream at the top of their lungs, so I quickly moved to the entrance of the section where I was sitting. It turned out that they had just started showing some images of the artists on the screen.

While waiting to be seated (which felt like an eternity) I started to feel really anxious and excited. I was clasping my ticket so hard! Once in my seat (see the picture), I got out my pink SNSD foam heart and nervously grabbed it while waiting for the concert to start.

The first group on the stage was f(x)! I thought that it’d be one hour of boybands before the girl groups would come on, so I was really surprised! After that, Krystal stayed on the stage and performed a song with SNSD’s Jessica (her sister). I didn’t get any decent photos from the start of the concert since I had to adjust the camera settings and I didn’t want to fiddle with it while f(x) was on stage.

Then SHINee came on and you could hear that the majority of the crowd was fangirls. They were so loud and I felt a little bad for not cheering more for f(x). SHINee were great though. All groups were great! They put on a really good show.

When they did their introductions, there was a translator who translated it to French, which was a bit weird since I’m guessing most of the audience wasn’t French.

Later on an angel descended. Seo-hyun entered the stage and started singing a ballad duet with Kyu-hyun from Super Junior. She’s sooooo beautiful!! If you watch a fancam and hear someone man-scream “Seo-hyuuun!!!” as she leaves the stage, then that was me  .

It felt like the majority of the concert was Super Junior and SHINee performances. Girls’ Generation sang quite a few songs too: Run Devil Run, Ha ha ha, Kissing you, Himnae, Hoot, Oh and Gee. But it was just so intense and surreal seeing them live and cheering for them that I actually only remember bits and pieces. Although I’m a big fan of Tae-yeon, it was Yu-ri and Yoon-a who caught my eye the most during their performances. Yu-ri looked great! They did a dance stage with some of the guys and Yu-ri and Luna (!) and Yu-ri looked so hot there (no pictures, sorry, but check her out in the golden Hoot/Oh outfit further down).

You can see that in one of the pictures they’re wearing their black Run Devil Run dresses and then they’re wearing plaid skirts in the next. It actually took me a while to notice that they were changing their outfits on stage (they had the skirts on underneath).

I hope no one caught me on film while SNSD walked out on the platform and waved to the audience, because I was on my feet waving hysterically like an idiot while holding on tightly to my foam heart  .

Sorry Sorry was performed three times. First by Super Junior-KRY, then by Super Junior and finally by all artists at the end. Super Junior also put on a very good show with some great dancing.

When it was f(x)’ turn again I was ready to cheer for them. I also got some pictures that time. They performed Nu ABO. I cheered so hard! I think I cheered more for f(x) than SNSD to be honest. I was hoping that they’d perform Lollipop, since SHINee was there and all, but they sang Gangsta Boy instead.

The boybands used some wire work too. Here SHINee is flying, but Super Junior also went airborne earlier. SHINee also had lasers attached to their hands while in the air for their Lucifer performance. Big crowd pleaser.

I had practised SNSD fanchants a little before leaving for France. I tried my best, but messed them up a bit. I gave it my all at the end of “Oh” though. “지금은 소녀시대! 앞으로도 소녀시대! 영원히 소녀시대! 소녀시대 사랑해! Oh!”

By this time all groups had performed several times, except DBSK (TVXQ). They made a grand entrance though:

Their following performances were very tight.

Next f(x) performed Pinocchio! When I saw five silhouettes on the stage I spontaneously jumped out of my seat and screamed “F(X)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”. I completely messed up the intro fanchant, but I think made up for it during the rest of the song. SNSD also performed Gee, but I don’t have any good pics of that.

Then the concert ended. I was waving like a lunatic at Tae-yeon, but I don’t think she saw me.

The concert was great! I thought all artists did a great job. The boy bands had some really solid dance numbers. It wasn’t just something I had to watch while waiting for f(x) and SNSD. They were all great!

I’m really glad that I brought concert earplugs, because the crowd was really loud (including myself). I wish I had brought my Tae-yeon lightstick though (they were said to have been banned, so I left it at the hotel), because everyone except SONE had brought lightsticks.

Although I had a seat, I spent most of the concert on my feet. I had to sit down a little at the end (not when SNSD or f(x) was on of course) because I had done nothing but walk and stand in line for two days straight before that. I cheered a lot for all the artists, but it seemed like many of the boyband fans didn’t cheer much for SNSD. I thought that was kind of lame.

SMTOWN

After the concert I finally got to buy some goods. Apart from the bag, towel and T-shirt (they only had S, M and L) that I got with my ticket, I got f(x) binders and f(x) and SNSD posters. I put the SMTOWN towel to good use during the concert. It was completely soaked in sweat  . This photo was taken in my hotel room.

There’s so much more to tell, but this is long enough! Ask if there’s anything else you want to know.
