This is Tae-yeon’s solo performance of a Hush Hush; Hush Hush from SNSD’s first live tour DVD. The song is originally by Pussycat Dolls, which in turn borrows from Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive.

I’m usually not keen on K-Pop artists singing in English (except for IU), but Tae-yeon really pulls this off. I looked up the original (yeah, I’ve been pretty disconnected from Western mainstream music since I got into J/K-Pop) and I think that Tae-yeon does it better. I might be a bit biased, but that’s my opinion.

It’s been rumored that there will be English versions of some songs on SNSD’s upcoming album, including English version music videos. Like I said, I usually don’t care for English versions much (I prefer 2NE1’s Korean versions, for example), but at the same time it would be very interesting to hear.

I admit that Tae-yeon’s solo performance was what made me preorder the DVDs straight away, without hesitation. But the whole thing (about 3 hours long) is a pleasure to watch. The video and audio production could have been better though. It’s fine, but I’m used to for example BoA’s concert DVDs, which have excellent quality.

I hope they’ll release more SNSD concert DVDs. I’ve seen some fancams from their 2011 tour where Tae-yeon sang a rock intro to Run Devil Run (Devil’s Cry). So awesome. Check it out below. I’d buy it for that minute and a half alone.
