I’m still enjoying Crayon Pop’s sweet energetic songs. I get the feeling that their songs are mixed a bit differently than other groups I’m listening to. Crayon Pop sound more bass-y in my headphones. I played them at a party last weekend and a buddy of mine seemed to like them too :) .

Saturday Night was Crayon Pop’s second song. The video is silent in the beginning, so don’t crank up your volume. The song doesn’t start until they get out of the van.

The version used in the video (excluding the intro) is the Dubstep mix, which was included on their first mini-album. Have I already ranted about K-Pop “remixes”? It seems like the current standard for a “remix” is to make a carbon copy of the original song, except for one short break where something remixy is added. They should all be called the “99% like the original mix” :P . Rant over :) . That said, I like Saturday Night. Remix or not (they sound the same anyway ;) ).

Crayon Pop’s Dancing Queen was used as background music in the fan edited Tae-yeon video clip that I posted last week. I really liked it, so I had to look them up. They’re a rookie group that debuted this summer and they have released three songs so far. I’ve been listening to their songs all week. Very catchy and energetic.

I wasn’t able to find a music video for Dancing Queen (I don’t think there is one), so I picked a performance from Music Bank.

Their choreography is a bit unorthodox  , but I dig their style :) . They used the same outfits in a guerilla concert that they held when they were rejected by the major music shows.

The main vocalist Cho-a (dark hair) looks very familiar to me. I don’t know if I’ve seen her before or if it’s just seeing her twin Way (blonde) that gives me that déjà vu feeling.

To be continued…

Younique Unit is a group put together by SM Entertainment for a Hyundai commercial (don’t know about any future plans for the group). It consists of Hyo-yeon (SNSD), Tae-min (SHINee), Eun-hyuk (Super Junior), Henry (Super Junior-M), Kai (Exo-K) and Luhan (Exo-M).

I’ve listened to their song Maxstep and I really like it. Sounds really nice when listening on headphones. I listened to the song before watching the video. The DBSK-esque sound and having seen a lot of tweets about the awesome dancing I had pretty high expectations.

I found the choreography a bit disappointing. I had imagined something more bad ass, powerful and advanced. From what I heard, this was supposed to be a “dance group” so I thought they’d go all out in that department. The dancing feels more like SHINee than DBSK (which I was expecting). It kind of takes the edge off the song when the audio goes “Rooar!” and in the video the dude’s like “meow :3″.

I’m not digging SNSD’s Japanese singles lately. I liked Mr. Taxi (+ several songs from their first Japanese album) and their ballads, but Paparazzi and the new song Flower Power aren’t doing it for me.

I was cautiously optimistic after seeing the concept photos, but I don’t even like the outfits in the video. I mean, I like Yoon-a’s “normal”/fancy outfit that flashes by a couple of times, but the “stewardess” outfits look really cheap imo (more like “sexy nurse at Halloween”).

The good points about this video is that Yoon-a and Yu-ri look great. Especially Yoon-a, but she’s getting most time on screen I think.

I saw a comment on youtube about the lyrics, but I don’t know if I should write it here. It’s one of those things that can’t be unheard  .

I hope their Korean comeback will be nothing like this, to he honest.

K.Will’s latest music video 이러지마 제발 (Please don’t) features Da-som from Sistar. She’s one of the two members that are kind of overshadowed by Hyo-rin and Bo-ra. The other one is… So-yu. Da-som looks very pretty here. K.Will sure knows how to broaden the audience for his videos. It seems like he always has girl group members (or IU) in his music videos (or perhaps those are just the ones I watch). The first time I heard of him was when SNSD’s Yu-ri was in his video.

I really like this video. It seems pretty run-of-the-mill, but *spoiler* there’s a twist at the end.

You might recognize the main actor Seo In-guk, who was part of the main cast of the drama Reply 1997/Answer to 1997 and also appeared in Love Rain (I haven’t seen either of those dramas yet). The other guy is a model named Ahn Jae-hyun.

Hyun-a is back with another solo track! I had only seen the title and a teaser image before watching the video tonight and, honestly, I was expecting to hate it. Both the song and video is kind of all over the place. We’re thrown from Hyun-a running a clown over with her ice cream truck to cleavage-y Hyun-a all lathered and leathered up to confident Hyun-a riding on back of a male dancer… and it totally works  !

I’m not a fan of Hyun-a videos (her own or collabs) where she’s just “being hot” doing stripper-like moves and boob-squeezing, but… it’s not toned down in this video (at all), but there’s more to it this time. Like a choreography. Although, I wish there was more of it. She’s even doing some aegyo (she can be really cute too). There’s a good balance between singing and rapping, but I wish the rapping were more refined somehow.

Since Hyun-a made an appearance in PSY’s Gangnam Style, PSY makes an appearance in Hyun-a’s video too, but just in the intro. Kind of a “this video is approved by PSY. Internetz, do your thing”.

This weekend I’ve been playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on PS3. It’s a turned based strategy game developed by the same people who made Civilization. It’s based on an old game called UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994). I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but I bought it since I’ve been playing Civilization Revolution a bit recently.

As you probably have guessed already, it’s a game about saving the earth from an alien invasion.

XCOM is pretty challenging. Frustrating at first, but then it’s a bit thrilling. I haven’t played the old games, so I didn’t have any prior knowledge about the strategies involved. Apart from commanding a squad of soldiers in alien infested areas, you also have to manage research, build facilities in your base and make decisions on what part of the world should get satellite coverage/military help/etc. to avoid panic.

I think part of the game is not knowing what to do. When you meet a new kind of alien … Continue reading

Miss A have just returned with a new album called Independent Women Part III. I haven’t listened to the whole album yet, but I definitely will. I just listened to the song I Don’t Need a Man (남자 없이 잘 살아) and… it’s awesome!

At the beginning of the music video you don’t know quite what to expect. Then the cool choreography starts and the song just flows from there on. I had no expectations for this comeback, but this is great. It has the characteristic Miss A flavour, but is still a new sound for them.

I was a bit surprised when Jia started rapping all of a sudden. “Isn’t that Min’s job?”. Then Min chimes in :) .

This video also has the most subtle JYP intro I’ve seen so far :) .

My favourite member is Suzy What?♩. The bright red lipstick kind of clashes with the outfit in the dancing scenes (grasping for something to complain about to reduce fanboy level), but other than that she absolutely glows in this video (imho) 진짜♫. Red shirt *silent man-squeel* (love that smile) 정말♬

I was spazzing so hard when I first heard that Tae-yeon was going to sing a song on the soundtrack for To the Beautiful you (아름다운 그대에게). I kind of like Tae-yeon (fun game: try to locate the biggest understatement in this post :) ) and I like all of her drama soundtrack songs. She really is the queen of drama soundtracks. The song is called Closer (가까이) and was first heard at the end of episode 5. It’s a really nice ballad. I like the whole soundtrack, but Closer and Stand Up are the best songs, imo.

The video clip is from Tae-yeon’s performance of the song at Inkigayo. I wish I were there! >_< Look how close to the stage everyone is standing.

As for the drama, I’ve watched 12 episodes so far. While the plot is a bit uneven, I like this drama a lot. I’ve been rooting for Eun-gyeol since the beginning, but I’ve had the feeling from the start that it won’t end the way I would like. I’m glad he decided to do what he did in episode 11, though (차은결 파이팅!). The last episodes will air next week. How will it end?! :)

Not long ago a friend of mine told me he had seen a good K-Pop group’s video being played between the matches at a StarCraft tournament. He asked me if I had heard of Orange Caramel, which I had :) . I’ve liked them since I first heard them (I like their cute concept), but I haven’t really been listening to them much. My buddy’s interest prompted me to put their new full-length album Lipstick on my iPhone and I’ve been listening to them quite a bit the past week.

The album is good. It contains all but one b-side of their previously released material (I think). My favourite song is probably Shanghai Romance, but their new title track Lipstick is also catchy. It doesn’t have the J-Pop sound that their previous singles have had. It sounds more, for lack of a better term, international.

I actually held one of their CDs in my hand when I was in Seoul last year, but there were so many things I wanted to buy, so I didn’t buy it then.
