IU

I haven’t used the computer much lately, so I didn’t see this video until today. It’s shows the recording of IU’s cover of Sanullim’s (산울림) song 너의 의미 together with original member Kim Chang-wan. The song appears on her cover album 꽃갈피.

I really like this song! It gives me such a good feeling. This album is a must-buy. Just my style.

The song starts at 1:18 in the video and there are English captions available.

You may recognize Chang-wan from the drama 별에서 온 그대 (My love from the stars), where he played Kim Soo-hyun’s “father”.

IU is so cute in this interview where she talks about how she likes to watching movies before going to bed. When she’s asked if she pays for them she turns to her manager “You paid for them, right?” “불법 다운로드 진짜 아니죠!” (I’d never download illegally) XD

That question comes up at 1:43.

You can activate English captions in the video.

I also wish I could get that vinyl LP she’s talking about.

IU recently held a series of concerts in a more intimate small theatre setting. I wish I could’ve been there! I love IU’s acoustic stuff and it would have been amazing to see her at a smaller venue like this.

1theK has uploaded a few clips from the concert to Youtube and they all have English captions.

The first two songs are from her new cover album 꽃갈피 and the last one is from the re-packaged version of her previous album Modern Times (Epilogue).

I would beat myself up for not knowing all the lyrics though XD.

I was a bit sceptical about the drama series Gu Family Book judging by its first couple of episodes, which consisted of the back story for the main plot. However, I stuck with it to see when Suzy’s character would appear and after a few episodes the drama has really taken off. The main characters (Kang-chi, Yeo-wool and Chung-jo) are much more relatable.

Besides Suzy (the reason for my watching the drama in the first place), another beauty is Lee Yoo-bi, who plays Chung-jo … Continue reading

Last night I started watching the Korean drama series You’re the best, Lee Soon-shin (최고다 이순신). The main character is played by IU, which I admit is the reason I checked this drama out. She’s very adorable as Soon-shin, but the drama seems to be very good as well.

I’ve only watched two episodes, but the impression I’ve gotten so far is that the drama is about being brave when handling adversity, even though no one else believes in you and that “when a door closes, a window opens”.

I’ve placed a bunch of orders from various places recently and now they’re starting to arrive :) . Today I got a package from Korea. It consisted of IU’s 2013 calendar, an IU button set and the Tae-yeon version of I Got a Boy. My two favourites. And enough bubble wrap to last a lifetime.

I know I’m super late in getting the I Got a Boy album. I blame YesAsia. I was set to order the Tae-yeon version from day one, but they decided to only sell the album with the version picked randomly. I had already bought the album on iTunes anyway. I wanted Tae-yeon!!

Earlier today IU wrote her first post on the international fan forum WeHeartIU. She had put the effort into writing a message in English and when so few appeared to have seen the post, she posted about it on Twitter. Then so many of her fans on Twitter went to the forum at once that the server became overloaded. I just thought it was funny  . If you want to do a DDoS attack (wiki) on a fan forum you just have to have the artist tweet about writing a post there :) .

Her post is so cute, like at the end: “잉글리쉬 이스 쏘~~~~~~~~~~~오오오오 디피컬트 !!!!!!!! 유노???!??” XD (”English is soooo difficult! You know?!” written phonetically in hangeul).

Loen Entertainment has formed Loen Tree, which consists of a number of Loen’s artists. As I understand it, it’s kind of a creative umbrella under which the artists can do collaborations and different projects. The first project is the mini-album Summer Story. One of the songs on the album is Sea of Moonlight (달빛바다) featuring IU and the upcoming group Fiestar.

I really like this song. It has a very positive, summery feeling to it. It also has a nice 80’s vibe. It’s way better than I had expected.

I have to give it to Loen. They certainly came up with a good plan for launching their new group. … Continue reading

This is what I ordered for this summer as far as K-Pop (and J-Pop) items go.

I’ve stopped ordering “album + poster” packages, since I already have loads of posters that I don’t have up on the walls. But I couldn’t resist the poster for IU’s latest single Spring of a Twenty Year Old. I’ve wanted an IU poster for a while and I’ve kind of regretted not asking if I could buy one that was on display in a music store in Seoul. It fit in a frame I had lying around too, so that’s a plus. … Continue reading

Last week IU released a new single in Korea called Spring of a twenty year old (스무 살의 봄), which consists of three songs. The title track Every end of the day (하루 끝), IU’s own composition Peach (복숭아), which had a digital release before the full single release and finally I really don’t like her (그 애 참 싫다).

IU isn’t promoting these songs on the music shows as she’s focusing on her upcoming solo concert, but Every end of the day still topped the online charts when it came out.

As the title of the single suggests, IU turns 20 this spring. In Korean age, that is. She turned 19 in “western age” on the 16th. Spring of a twenty year old is also the title of a short film which was released instead of a normal music video. It starts out in a documentary style where you get to follow IU during various activities, mixed with a personal interview. The second part is more of a short film of her trip to Venice, Italy. It also doubles as a music video for Every end of the day.

You can watch the film in its entirety here (no subtitles):

I made some clips for the music parts (three of them, keep scrolling :) ).
