Keiko Kitagawa

Last night I finally watched Hana no Ato (After the Flowers). It’s a Japanese period film starring Keiko Kitagawa. It’s based on a short story by Shuhei Fujisawa, whose work was the basis for similar movies such as Twilight Samurai.

I was planning on getting it on DVD as soon as a version with English subtitles was released, but it never came out, so after waiting for over a year and a half I got a fan-subbed version.

Keiko plays Ito, who is the daughter of a clan official. Without any sons, he has trained Ito in swordsmanship. One day Ito meets a lower ranking samurai, Magoshiro, who asks for a sparring match. During the match they make a connection. However, Ito’s future husband has already been decided and she tries to quench her feelings.

This might sound like a very romantic story, but it’s not typically romantic as much as a story of respect and quiet admiration. I don’t want to spoil the story more than that.

YUI was chosen to compose the opening and ending song for the upcoming Japanese movie Paradise Kiss, starring Keiko Kitagawa and Osamu Mukai. The movie is an adaptation of a manga by Ai Yazawa (the creator of NANA).

HELLO ~Paradise Kiss~ is the opening song. YUI has really changed up her style with her in her last couple of music videos. I think back to To Mother, when it was a minor sensation that YUI was wearing a dress. In this video all the different outfits kind of make sense considering what the movie is about. I like the head band look (the one in the screenshot). But YUI with straight bangs (with the pony tail, where she’s wearing black) looks so weird to me  .

You can hear a snippet of the ending song YOU in this trailer for the movie:

I finally watched Dear Friends (starring Keiko Kitagawa) the other night. I’ve been meaning to watch it for years (still not out on DVD with English subs). I liked it for the most part, although it was a bit awkward at times. Very emotional.

After watching it I browsed around YesAsia a bit and saw an in-store banner about some pre-order discount and thought “Hey, isn’t that Keiko?”. Turns out that she’s starring in a new movie called Hana no Ato, where she plays the daughter of a clan official who develops a relationship with a low-ranking samurai … Continue reading

I started watching the Japanese drama series Buzzer Beat this week. It’s about Naoki (played by Tomohisa “Yamapi” Yamashita) who is a professional basket ball player, who is having problems believing in himself. He meets Riko (played by Keiko Kitagawa, whom I love) who wants to become a professional violinist. … Continue reading

By recommendation I recently started watching the Japanese drama series Mop Girl (モップガール) starring the lovely Keiko Kitagawa. It’s only ten episodes long, so it won’t take long to finish it, but I’m enjoying it.

The story is about Momoko, who has the ability to travel back in time if she touches the belongings of someone who has died, so that she can try to prevent their deaths. Kind of like Tru Calling, but Mop Girl has a more feel-good quality to it. It’s a mix of comedy and drama.

It’s called Mop Girl because … Continue reading

Stylish Street Book

No, I’m not talking about practising, but about Japanese actress Keiko Kitagawa (北川景子). Normal people know her as the sidekick mechanic in The fast and the furious: Tokyo drift. The rest of us know her as Sailor Mars.

Keiko is now featured in two photobooks! The first one … Continue reading

Keiko Kitagawa (北川景子)I watched the Fast and the Furious ~ Tokyo Drift today. I was interested to see what Japanese actors they were using and if I recognized any of them. Not long after the main character arrived in Tokyo, she flashes by. The only one I recognized directly. Keiko Kitagawa (北川景子). She plays a very small part but she’s on screen quite a lot. She’s the girl mechanic in the good guys’ gang. I think she had one line in the movie. I wish they’d given her a bigger part. She’s by far the cutest girl in the movie.

You may know Keiko from the Sailor Moon live action series. Ahrm… which I’ve never watched of course  (go Sailor Mars!)
