Super Junior

Younique Unit is a group put together by SM Entertainment for a Hyundai commercial (don’t know about any future plans for the group). It consists of Hyo-yeon (SNSD), Tae-min (SHINee), Eun-hyuk (Super Junior), Henry (Super Junior-M), Kai (Exo-K) and Luhan (Exo-M).

I’ve listened to their song Maxstep and I really like it. Sounds really nice when listening on headphones. I listened to the song before watching the video. The DBSK-esque sound and having seen a lot of tweets about the awesome dancing I had pretty high expectations.

I found the choreography a bit disappointing. I had imagined something more bad ass, powerful and advanced. From what I heard, this was supposed to be a “dance group” so I thought they’d go all out in that department. The dancing feels more like SHINee than DBSK (which I was expecting). It kind of takes the edge off the song when the audio goes “Rooar!” and in the video the dude’s like “meow :3″.

Mr. Simple is the title track of Super Junior’s latest album and it sounds pretty much like their previous hit songs… all mixed into one. I can hear 미인아 (Bonamana) and the woooo-o-o from Super Girl somewhere in there. The song is all over the place. Kind of like a medley of a bunch of songs.

What I like most about Super Junior is the synchronized dancing and you get your dose of that in this video. And the song does grow on you (despite my aversion to song titles starting with “Mr.”).

If you already bought the album, be ready to pony up more dough, because version B will be released next week.

As you probably know all too well by now, I went to SMTOWN Paris last weekend. It was the first SMTOWN in Europe ever. It was also my first K-Pop concert and my first visit to Paris.

This will be a lot more text than I usually post, but don’t worry, there are pictures further down. I thought about boiling it down to something shorter, but then it would take too long before I could post it.

This clip is from YHY’s Sketchbook in 2009 where IU performed short acoustic covers of SNSD’s Gee, Big Bang’s Lies and Super Junior’s Sorry Sorry. Really nice versions.

It’s funny how smitten the host is by IU  . You can tell earlier in the show, but when she sings the covers he’s completely mesmerized by her. You can tell that he tried to force himself to look in another direction during Sorry Sorry after the audience laughed, but he soon has to look at her again.

The first time I watched this show (yes, I’ve watched it several times :) ), I thought “oh no!” when the audience started clapping along to Gee because I came to think of one of YUI’s street lives where the audience started clapping faster and faster.

I was thinking about writing how the talk-singing with voice effects that Super Junior have been doing in all their latest songs was cool in one song, but that it’s now getting old. But I changed my mind. It still sounds cool :)

In this video Girls’ Generation and Super Junior team up to promote the city of Seoul. It’s very cute and I like the song too. Sunny looks just right for the part as a kindergarten teacher somehow :)

Super Junior-M is a sub-unit of the Korean band Super Junior that is aiming for the Mandarin speaking parts of the world.

Ika requested their song Super Girl. I managed to get a hold of both the Korean and Mandarin version.

The two videos are pretty much the same except for the singing shots and both feature Jessica of Girls’ Generation who makes a small appearance (no singing). I put her in one of the thumbnails, but she’s not really that central in the video.

The style of this song is very much like Sorry, Sorry.

I downloaded this video by Super Junior because I had seen Girls’ Generation perform a short version of the song at Music Core.

Girls’ Generation are, from what I’ve read, supposed to be the female counterpart of Super Junior.

Of course, I can’t mention Girls’ Generation’s performance without posting that video too ;)
