Crayon Pop is still one of my favourite groups. They’ve just finished recording their comeback album which will be released in June, if I’m not mistaken. Teaser images have suggested a different, non-tracksuit, concept. Perhaps a bit sexier. We’ll see. That makes me think of a clip I saw of Crayon Pop where someone mentioned a sexy concept and how they wouldn’t be able to pull it off and Cho-a said: “I would” . I hope they keep their cute and sassy style, though.

They’ve also announced that they’ll be adding a sixth member for their Japanese promotions. Her name is Arisa.

So, to the main reason for this post. I’ve been waiting for Crayon Pop to release their song “1,2,3,4″ that they’ve been performing since last year, but it hasn’t been released as far as I know. I’ve heard the song in English and Japanese. Not in Korean so far. The Japanese version sounds a bit cutesier than the English version, but both are very good.

Here’s the Japanese version. … Continue reading

What better way than to start the new year with a comeback by SNSD? :D Their new album is now available digitally at online stores. I bought it off of iTunes and was listening to it on the train ride home from the New Year’s party.

At the same time, the music video for I Got a Boy was released. I kind of spoiled my initial spazzing by bugging my friend to play it at his house. Couldn’t really gush at that time.

The song is kind of fragmented. I enjoy twists and turns in songs, but this one is kinda like “I have no idea where the heck I’m going, let’s turn left!”. There’s a lot of different, contrasting parts competing for attention. Not very homogeneous or harmonious.

Tae-yeon looks so awesome in this video (as opposed to… never :) ). Yoon-a also looks great with her camo jacket. The drama parts of the video feel a bit out of place and doesn’t really match the overall mood of the rest of the song.

The part of the choreography that I like … Continue reading

Today (the end of the world) SNSD started releasing teasers for their 4th Korean album. The album (and title track, I guess) is called I Got a Boy. They will make their comeback on January 1st and the album will be released the day after.

The first teaser video consists of the entire music video for the song Dancing Queen! :D

This song is kind of TaeTiSeo (sound) meets Gee (looks). It’s a remake of the song Mercy by Duffy, but with new Korean lyrics. I like it! :D It’s a bit nostalgic in the way the girls all have the same hairstyles as they did when promoting Gee. At the end of the video we get to see a short teaser for I Got a Boy, which sounds like it’ll be something completely different.

Ohh… Now I’ve read that a lot of the footage in Dancing Queen is actually from 2008 and that the song was intended to be released back then, but couldn’t due to copyright issues. No wonder it looks so Gee-like.

Dancing Queen is already out on iTunes.

Girls’ Generation also started releasing teaser photos. … Continue reading

Tae-yeon @ Bangkok concert 121125

I figure that if I like a picture enough to use it as a wallpaper, it warrants a post on the blog as well. I’m currently using this photo of Tae-yeon from the concert in Bangkok as my lock screen wallpaper on my phone. Awesome photo!

For my home screen I’m using this nice photo of Yoon-a, Tae-yeon looking at Yu-ri’s post-it notes :) :

Also, SNSD’s second Japanese album has been released. You can get an idea of what the new songs sound like by checking out this digest (if you can stand the MC):

SPAO 2012 Warm Heart

SPAO posted this picture of f(x) (sans Amber) on their facebook page. I thought it looked so cozy now that winter is coming, so I wanted to post it here. It’s supposed to be a wallpaper, but the size is a bit off.

This year f(x) and Super Junior are models for SPAO’s fall and winter clothes. Last year it was SNSD (and Super Junior).

There’s an album out called She Loves You, which is a tribute album to YUI where other artists cover her songs. I really like this album. My reservation is that some of the covers are perhaps a bit too straight forward. I think that a great cover is an interpretation where the artists adds their unique traits to the song. Many of the covers on this album, while good, sound a lot like the original songs. Maybe the artists who participated are just too similar to YUI. That said, it’s definitely worth a listen. I’ve been listening to and enjoying it a lot this week.

I thought I’d share some thoughts on each track:

1. SCANDAL - How Crazy. A pretty straight forward cover with slightly heavier electric guitars and drums.
2. Negoto - Tomorrow’s Way. I like her voice and the way she half-speaks during the verse. The song is a lot more “filled out” with sound than the original. Lots of drums and even a little “noise”. Maybe I should recommend this song to a friend of mine who listens to “noise music” (not enough of it perhaps). I’m a sucker for all-over-the-place-y drums like the ones in this song.
3. miwa - Good-bye days. … Continue reading

YUI is releasing two best of albums in December. One is called “Orange Garden Pop” and one “Green Garden Pop”, which I guess represents the feeling of the songs that go on each album. When I first saw the titles I thought that Orange would have rockier songs and Green would have more mellow ones, but it’s kind of a mix. Looking at the tracklists (below) the grouping by colour still makes sense somehow.

It seems like the only new song will be fight, which is included on the Green album. The albums will contain all her singles, plus some favourite songs from her albums. I’m not sure what the limited editions will contain. YesAsia lists them as including a DVD, but other places just write “a bonus item”, so I don’t know exactly what it is. Some stores also sell the two albums as a set which comes with a bonus “white book”.

If you (unlike me :) ) haven’t already bought all of YUI’s previous CDs, this could be a good time to pounce. All good songs. And I like the covers.

  • Green Garden Pop (limited)
  • Green Garden Pop (regular)
  • Orange Garden Pop (limited)
  • Orange Garden Pop (regular)

Speaking of covers. There’s also an album out called She Loves You, which is a tribute to YUI where other artists (including Scandal and Stereopony) have recorded covers of her songs. Actually, I’ll write another post about that album.

Yoon-a UFO town pic

SNSD’s Yoon-a recently updated her UFO town profile picture with a set of selcas that are absolutely adorable. You can see many of her different charms in these photos.

Seo-hyun CeCi

CeCi Korea just posted this picture of Seo-hyun on their Facebook page.

Unbelievably pretty  .

G-Star Raw Japan

SNSD are modelling for the clothing brand G-Star Raw in their Japanese ads. Today G-Star posted a high-res picture of one of their ads featuring SNSD. It looks a bit like a more mature version of their Gee Jeans and T-shirt look :) .

Note: the image is kind of big (4650×3288, 5.7 MB)
