review

I recently wrote about the Korean drama series Be Strong Geum-soon that YA Entertainment has released with English subtitles. It’s only available in the US, but I got a hold of the first volume on eBay. I got it last week and I’ve watched 14 episodes so far.

The episodes […] there’s more! »

Innocent steps

I just watched the Korean movie Innocent steps on DVD. I bought it when I was ordering some other stuff just because Moon Geun-young (Mun Geun-yeong, 문근영) is in it. I’ve seen her in My little bride, A tale of two sisters and the drama Autumn tale before this. I think she’s an excellent actress. I’ve seen My little bride several times. Well, back to Innocent steps.

The movie is about a former professional dancer, Na Young-sae, who is convinced to make a comeback with a new partner, Jang Chae-min, who’s a talented dancer from China (Yanbian). In order to keep her in Korea he has to fake a marriage with her. Only it turns out that […] there’s more! »

Pocco

Yesterday I received the Fräulein Revotech Pocco figure that I had pre-ordered at J-List. It looks very good. I really like the eyes. I think this figure looks way better than the Rei Ayami Revoltech figure (which I also have). The joints are also different.

A bad thing about my figure is that the joints on her left arm were loose, so her left arm came apart all the time. […] there’s more! »

Al Azif 1/8 Max Factory without wall

Today I got the Max Factory Al Azif figure that I’ve been waiting for. I really like it because of how the hair and all the ribbons flow. It has some minor imperfections on the ribbons and some very small stains (as you can see in the pictures), but the overall quality is great in my opinion.

BoA’s 2008 calendar is coming out November 7. I thought the cover looked interesting but was waiting for some previews of the calendar before deciding whether or not to get it. Here are preview images for the first 8 months. What do you think? I think this calendar looks much better than the 2007 one!

  • 2008 calendar preview 03-04
  • 2008 calendar preview 05-06
  • 2008 calendar preview 07-08

My old car stereo is not very good. It can only play cassettes, the display is broken and sometimes it dies when you adjust the volume. I’ve been using a cassette adapter together with my mp3 player when I’ve wanted to listen to my own music.

My dad gave me a 2GB USB stick for my birthday and I’ve been using it to bring mp3s to work. Yesterday it hit me that there just have to be car stereos with a USB port that can play mp3s off a USB stick. […] there’s more! »

I was poking around my blog today doing some changes in the template and stuff and I noticed that my post with previews of BoA’s 2007 calendar was set to “private” which means that people who searched for “boa 2007 calendar” and ended up on my site never saw it! Argh! I’ll have to put a big warning in the template so that I can see clearly which posts are private in the future.

Roomba in docking station

Roomba in docking station

Cleaning your home can be satisfying but it’s also very very boring. I’ve estimated that I have to vacuum my apartment at least two times a week (preferably more often) to keep it tidy. I’m way too lazy to do that. This is where the Roomba enters the picture. It’s a robotic vacuum cleaner that offers to do the dirty work for you. The Roomba has its limitations but I’m glad I bought it. […] there’s more! »

Finally there are some previews of Ayu’s 2007 calendar! It looks very nice. Much better than BoA’s in my opinion. I think I’ll be ordering this one. The only picture that doesn’t really do it for me is the September-October one. She had a similar picture in her 2005 calendar and I didn’t particularly like that either.
But this means trouble for me. I was thinking about replacing my BoA calendar with an Ai Otsuka poster, but now this Ayu calendar would be perfect there as well :)

Daisy poster

As I’ve written previously, the DVD box of the movie Daisy that I bought contains both the Director’s cut (international version) and theatrical (Korean) version of the movie. I started out watching the Director’s cut which I loved. A few days ago I watched the theatrical version and I must say that I’ve never seen such big difference between the regular and director’s cut versions of a movie before. Usually the director’s cut just contains a few scenes that were cut out of the theatrical version, but not this time.

Daisy

Both versions of Daisy contain scenes that don’t exist in the other version. The director’s cut version is longer, but the most important difference is the order in which things take place in the movie, or rather, the order in which they are revealed to the viewer. The theatrical version has a more linear storytelling and reveals things sooner than the director’s cut. In the director’s cut (this must be a record in the number of times “director’s cut” appear in a single post ~ I’m a little tired) the characters are introduced more or less one at the time and lets the viewer wait a while before revealing the whole story.

I liked the director’s cut version most. It’s more surprising since it doesn’t reveal things so quickly, so you don’t know what to expect to the same extent as in the theatrical version. I recommend that you watch the director’s cut (also called International version).
